Episode 148: Pluto Retrograde 2026 in Aquarius: How Reclamation Sparks Revolution Within

by | May 7, 2026

Pluto stationed retrograde on May 5 at 5° Aquarius. And let’s be honest — Pluto isn’t budging for days. This Rx medicine is still fresh.

I know you can feel it. In your relationships. In your communities. In your view of society. And if you were born between 1971 and 1975, you’ve likely been hearing the LOUD call to do something about it.

Pluto is a Mack truck. It doesn’t shift gears overnight. When it stations, it stations for about eight days on each side, just hanging out at one degree. And those stations?

They’re acupuncture points in the sky. The planet plants itself on a degree and opens up the channel. If you have a natal planet or angle in early Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, or Scorpio, you might be feeling pressure headaches right now. You’re getting the treatment. Lucky you.

It’s intense. So feel into it. Let the energy flow through you. Don’t push through. Pluto retrograde is the deep work — and the pace is the point.

Inside this episode:

  • A reading from Astrology for Changemakers — the “Change Is Inevitable—How We Meet Change Now” excerpt
  • The mechanics of Pluto retrograde 2026 — why Pluto is always in its shadow zone, why retrograde stations work like acupuncture pressure points
  • Why the patriarchal model — top-down, extractive, individualistic, the wealth gap of the 0.1% is dying, and what’s rising in its place: matriarchal leadership that’s circular, regenerative, council-led, and diverse
  • The work of uncolonizing your mind and asking: where am I still leading from the old structure?
  • Every key Pluto aspect of 2026, with reflection prompts:
  • Why July 5–20 is the peak window of this Pluto retrograde
  • A special message for the Pluto in Libra generation (1971–1975) — the rare Air Grand Trine forming between transiting Pluto in Aquarius, Uranus in Gemini, and your natal Pluto in Libra

The revolution starts INSIDE of you.

What Pluto Retrograde Actually Is

Let me give you the mechanics, because they matter.

Pluto is literally a planet that takes three steps forward, two steps back. It’s always in its shadow zone. There’s no such thing as Pluto being outside of it. Pluto spends about 45% of its synodic cycle in retrograde — about 5.5 months a year. It moves only about three degrees total in a year, and spends 11–20 years in a single sign or natal house.

Here’s the 2026 path:

  • January 1 → Pluto at 1° Aquarius
  • May 5 → stations retrograde at 5° Aquarius
  • October 15 → stations direct at 3° Aquarius
  • December 31 → ends the year at 4° Aquarius

So between May 5 and October 15, Pluto only travels back two degrees. Slow. Deep. It’s medicine.

You know those tower moments — the ones we’re all afraid of? But when we look back on them, we say oh my gosh, I needed that. Pluto retrograde is a five-and-a-half-month tower moment. Lightning. Collapse. Rebuild.

Every time Pluto goes retrograde, it’s asking us to understand if we are really aligned. So we need to realign. To what needs to be released, let go, and changed in that Plutonian birth-and-death way. A complete cycle. And it’s asking us to re-empower wherever we’ve allowed society or lived experience — or in my case, my health situation — to take away our power.

The Bigger Picture: Why This Pluto in Aquarius Matters

I want to share an excerpt from my upcoming book Astrology for Changemakers (out September 8, 2026 from Weiser Books, with a foreword by Theresa Reed). This passage is from a section called “Change Is Inevitable — How We Meet Change Now,” and it sets up why this Pluto retrograde feels so big.

For too long, leadership has been defined too narrowly. The people we were sold as “leaders” were often those who dominated, controlled, hoarded wealth, and extracted without reciprocity. Those people aren’t leaders; those are authoritarians.

Meanwhile, too many women, BIPOC, queer, nonbinary, neurodivergent, young, and old were overlooked, underestimated, or told to conform to be seen as leaders. We were told to fit into roles never meant for us.

That old era of leadership is dying. Change is happening “as within” society and “so above” in the stars.

The last time Pluto was in Aquarius (1777–1797), the world experienced the American, French, Haitian, and Irish revolutions — all born from a desire for political, social, and economic equality. People rising against old forms of domineering leadership to create community-centered care.

At the same time, Western “discoveries” of the Pacific were happening. European powers arrived in the Pacific believing they were charting the unknown. Meanwhile, Polynesian and Austronesian wayfinders were already navigating the vast Pacific through intimate collective knowledge, shared memory, and relationship to ancestors, stars, wind, waves, currents, and sea life. The Western worldview wanted to dominate and claim what already existed: decentralized leadership, relational knowing, and survival through cooperation.

The pattern we’re in now is clear. It’s time for another revolution. Pluto in Aquarius is asking us to reclaim and reinvent — as revolution — our precolonial technologies of connection, collaboration, and collective wisdom that have always allowed humanity to travel farther together than competition ever could.

Like the wayfinders before you, you are living in a time when the old ways and strategies no longer work. The systems you were taught to trust are dissolving. Yet the stars are still there. And so is your capacity to hear them. You were born with it in your original design.

Pluto in Aquarius for Leaders: The Inner Revolution

So if change is happening as within and so above — what is Pluto retrograde in Aquarius asking of us as leaders, changemakers, and wayfinders?

The patriarchal model has been dominating us for the last 2,000 years, at least. That kind of leadership is top-down. It’s about domination. Extraction. Exploitation. Separation. Individualism. And we can see where it goes — the wealth gap is increasing. We are literally sick and tired because we are being extracted from. By systems. By corporations. By billionaires who could never even spend that much money in their lifetime.

There are 0.1% of them. There are 99.9% of us. We have power to make this change.

And the change we’re bringing in — this matriarchal change — isn’t new. Indigenous societies have lived this model for tens of thousands of years. In harmony with their lands. Reciprocally. For the people. For the Mother Earth.

In this new era we’re bringing back, leadership is:

  • Circular — not top-down. A council. Elders. People coming together to make decisions for the collective.
  • Regenerative — we don’t just take from the land and leave it for someone else to fix. We rest. We reciprocate. We put back.
  • Diverse — like a garden of complementary plants. I just planted tomatoes and basil and oregano in the same planter because they support each other. Each has its specialty, but they grow stronger together. So who are your plants in the planter? Are you the tomato? Who’s your basil? Who’s your oregano?

Pluto retrograde in Aquarius is asking us:

  • Where are you still leading from the old structure?
  • What needs to be uncolonized in your mind?
  • What old leadership paradigms are ready to die inside of you?

This takes time. Maybe you’ve done a lot of internal work already. This is a time to revisit. To see if there are any old remnants. The old era of leadership is dying. We are being asked to come through.

The Aspects: What Pluto Retrograde Is Doing in 2026

Pluto isn’t moving alone this year. Throughout the retrograde, it’s making aspects to Mars, Uranus, and Jupiter. Each one is a navigational moment in the inner revolution.

When I think of Pluto and Mars together, the keyword is potency. Potency means action. It makes an impact. It leaves a mark.

When I think of Pluto and Uranus together, the keyword is revolution. Both archetypal energies of change, in trine — meaning it’s right, it’s flowing, it’s already in motion.

When I think of Pluto and Jupiter together, the keyword is ideology. Pluto’s power meeting Jupiter’s expansion means ideologies at a break point — within ourselves and in the world.

Here’s the timeline:

  • Mars square Pluto — May 25
What potency is now being triggered for you? What do you have the energy to get started?
  • Mars trine Pluto — July 5
What potency is ripe for action? Things aren’t just triggered now — they have momentum.
  • Uranus trine Pluto — July 17 (first pass)
What revolutions are ripe? This trine has about five exact passes over the next couple of years. Start to notice what’s changing in you. Start to notice the patterns in the world.
  • Jupiter opposition Pluto — July 20
What ideologies are at a break point? Maybe your old belief systems are finally disintegrating. Maybe in the collective, we’ll see binaries colliding.
  • Mars opposition Pluto — October 3
What potency is being confronted? What inner confrontations are coming? What confrontations are happening in the world?
  • Uranus trine Pluto — November 29 (post-direct)
    What revolutions are still rising?

July 5–20 is the peak window. Three aspects to Pluto in two weeks. Mark it. Don’t schedule a big launch that week. Plan something contemplative instead. If you’ve been sitting on a bold move, July 5 is when the green light shows up.

A Special Message for the Pluto in Libra Generation (1971–1975)

If you were born between 1971 and 1975 — especially if you have Pluto in the very early degrees of Libra (mine is at 6°) — this is your time.

You have been gifted an Air Grand Trine. Pluto in Aquarius. Uranus in Gemini. Your natal Pluto in Libra. Air is your social structures. Your communities. Air wants to exchange information. Yes, it’s intellectual. Yes, it’s logical. But why do we have information and logic? To share it.

This Grand Trine is asking us to speak out. To share our ideas. To lead the revolution with our voice.

And here’s why it’s especially important for women in our age range — for those of us going through perimenopause: as you move through this passage, your womb is directly connected through your throat chakra. Your power isn’t bleeding out anymore. It’s being recycled within. Your voice is amplified.

After perimenopause. After your Uranus opposition. After your Chiron return. You have a voice that’s rippling forth.

If you’ve been feeling like your life is falling apart, like you have zero patience and zero capacity to hold your tongue — GOOD. We don’t need you to hold your tongue. We need you to speak. We need you to be outraged. We need you to shout from the rooftops, this is not okay, here’s the change I’m making.

This is a different age. Middle-aged women aren’t going to be forgotten. People are looking up to us now. The world has been waiting for us to say yes — share your wisdom, share your experience.

So speak out. Let your voice be your tool.

The stars are still there. And so is your capacity to hear them. You were born with it in your original design.

Pluto and Uranus are pinging you, saying: your power time is now, my friend.

What To Do With Pluto Retrograde energy

Don’t push through this Pluto retrograde. Slow down. The pace is the point.

Pull up your chart and check the early degrees of the fixed signs. Anything in 3–5° of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus, or Scorpio? That’s your acupuncture point right now. That’s where the work is happening for you specifically.

Look honestly at where you’re still leading from the old structure. Where are you running yourself into the ground? Where are you extracting from yourself? What inside you needs to be uncolonized?

Mark July 5–20 on your calendar. Save your energy for the Mars trine on July 5. Don’t schedule a big launch the week of July 17–20 — the world will be in confrontation. Plan something contemplative.

And if you’re a woman in your early 50s, especially with Pluto in Libra — speak. The world is waiting.

The revolution starts INSIDE of you.
