The Aries New Moon asked you to claim your desires.
Now the Scorpio Full Moon is shining light on exactly what’s standing in the way.
These two lunations were made for each other — both ruled by Mars, both asking you to move toward something. Aries moves toward desire. Scorpio moves toward truth. And it’s in the deep, unflinching territory of Scorpio that we find out whether our desire is real enough to survive our own fears.
In this episode of Star Powered, I go Scorpio Moon deep with you — naming fears, connecting them to your leadership, and teaching Pema Chödrön’s Tonglen breathing practice as a way to alchemize what’s blocking you into the courage your people need from you.
Be prepared to go deep. To breathe differently than you’ve been taught. And to reveal what’s truly blocking you from your luminary leadership.
In this episode:
- Why the Scorpio Full Moon perfectly follows the Aries New Moon
- How Uranus in Gemini weaves into this Full Moon
- Naming your fears
- Pema Chödrön’s Tonglen: poison as medicine
- Three questions to reveal before you breathe
- The four steps of Tonglen for this Full Moon
Mars, Fear, and the Perfect Pair of Lunations
The Aries New Moon and the Scorpio Full Moon work in divine sequence. Mars rules both. In Aries, Mars asks: what do you desire? In Scorpio, Mars asks: what are you hiding from yourself that’s keeping you from it?
The Aries New Moon invited us to see that desire is leadership — that if your desire doesn’t scare you a little, it isn’t big enough. Then Uranus moved into Gemini on April 26, a generational shift that throws a wrench into our plans and forces us to get comfortable with uncertainty. And now the Scorpio Full Moon arrives on May 1, illuminating the truths we’ve been clinging to instead of facing, the fears that keep us reaching backward instead of forward.
You couldn’t script this kind of cosmic timing.
The Canary in the Coal Mine
Before my second thyroid surgery last week, I was in Star Powered® Circle facilitating our Uranus in Gemini masterclass — and one of our community members said something I can’t stop thinking about.
She opened her comment point blank: your wellness is making me really nervous.
The vulnerability and courage it takes to say something like that out loud — that’s Scorpio work right there. And when we went deeper together, she started to unpack it. She’s a Leo going through her second Saturn Return.
She’s broken free from controlling relationships and environments. She knows she has what it takes. And yet — she’s afraid. Afraid of being seen. Afraid of repeating old patterns. Afraid that going further means getting hurt again.
There are things I want to do, but I’m afraid to do them.
We went layer by layer, the way a Scorpio Full Moon does — past “I’m nervous about Uranus” to “I’m afraid of having my light stomped on again” to “I’m afraid of hurting others as I shine.”
What happened next was the gift: when she named her fears out loud, in a room full of compassionate witnesses, they lost some of their power. They stopped being walls and started being maps — pointing directly toward what she most deeply desires. That’s the hidden treasure of the Scorpio Full Moon.
Your Aries New Moon Desires Are Still Alive
Two weeks ago, I asked you to name the scary desire. I named mine: I want to be an international bestselling author with Astrology for Changemakers.
And then the excuses came. Surgery. Anesthesia. Brain fog. Recovery.
But as the moon moved toward fullness, I had to get honest about what was really stopping me from reaching out to astrology influencers, finishing my website, doing the scary outreach. And it wasn’t the surgery. It was this: What if people don’t like my work? What if I’m not good enough? What if visibility brings more responsibility than I can hold?
I felt it in my body — fatigue, tightness in my shoulders, tightness in my throat. (Literally and figuratively, given the thyroid surgery.) Fear lives somewhere specific in you. That location matters.
Pema Chödrön’s Tonglen: Poison as Medicine
The Scorpio Full Moon rules both poison and medicine — because they can be the same substance. The difference is how you’re holding and handling it.
Buddhist teacher Pema Chödrön teaches a breathing practice called Tonglen, which she brought to the West from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Her central teaching on it is this: use what seems like poison as medicine.
Most breathing practices tell you to breathe in love and light and exhale fear and darkness. Tonglen flips it completely. In this practice, fear isn’t the obstacle. Fear is the practice. The thing you thought disqualified you is the doorway in.
Your fear becomes medicine the moment you turn toward it — when you face it, hear it, get curious with it, breathe it in consciously. Mars in Scorpio can alchemize fear into the courage you — and your people — need you to have as a change maker.
Three Questions to Reveal Before You Breathe
Before you move into the Tonglen practice, sit with these three questions and write down your answers.
- What fear are you ready to turn toward instead of away from?
Get specific. Go past the surface-level nervousness. Like our community member who went from “I’m afraid of change” to “I’m afraid of having my light stomped on again.” For me, it’s “I’m afraid no one will care” and “I’m afraid too many people will care.” Name it precisely. Feel where it lives in your body. Give it a color, a texture, a weight. - What love or courage are you ready to send forth — even before you feel ready?
This is where fear becomes contribution. If you’re afraid of hurting people as you shine brighter, the love you send is: I am ready to help people shine their own light. If you’re afraid your work isn’t good enough, the love you send is: You are magnificently deserving of success. Flip the fear into its opposite — that’s the offering you bring to the exhale. - How is your breath your rebellion?
Uranus in Gemini is in this Full Moon too. Underneath the fear and the courage, consider this: what if changing how you breathe is changing your story about change itself? Your breath is your revolution. That’s what we’re about to practice.
The Four Steps of Tonglen for This Full Moon
You don’t have to do this for an hour. One conscious breath counts. A few cycles is powerful. Expand the inhale and exhale to equal counts. Play with it. Trust your intuition — it lives in your body, and your body already knows where your fear is.
Step 1 — Ground and open.
Before you begin, take a moment of pause, of silence, of openness. Plant your feet into the earth. Call everything in — the good, the bad, the scared, the excited. Arrive fully.
Step 2 — Find the texture of both.
Give your fear a sensory quality. Is it hot? Heavy? Dark? Tight? And then find the texture of its opposite — lightness, spaciousness, freedom. Train your body to hold both.
Step 3 — Inhale fear, exhale love.
On your inhale: breathe in the shadow — the fear, the thing the Scorpio Full Moon is illuminating. On your exhale: breathe out love, relief, tenderness — first toward yourself. This is not selfish. It is the practice.
Step 4 — Widen your circle.
When you’re ready, breathe in the same fear that others in your community may be carrying. Whoever is holding that same fear alongside you — breathe it in for them. And as you exhale, send the love, the courage, and the liberation outward to all of you. This is the moment your shadow becomes a doorway to shared humanity.
Luminary Leadership Is Not the Absence of Shadow
To do the big change-making things that make you a leader, you have to do the deep inner work. In four counts of a breath, you’re walking the parallel path your leadership requires — inner awakening and outer impact, happening at once.
You inhale the fear you were taught to hide. You exhale the love your people are waiting for.
The shadow this Scorpio Full Moon is illuminating is not disqualifying you. Through Mars, Scorpio is alchemizing that fear into the courage your lineage has been waiting for you to turn toward.
Luminary leadership is not the absence of shadow. It’s the willingness to transform your liabilities into your greatest gifts.
And it starts with one breath.
